I don’t often start something new. It’s been a lifetime, it seems, since I did anything but attend classes, read, and write. But if you look closely, you’ll see that in the photo above I am holding a pair of rock climbing shoes over my shoulder. I am by no means a very good rock climber — to be honest I only started a couple of weeks ago — but I get better every time I go, and, besides that, I love it. I love the music, the people hanging out on the mats and benches, the staff walking around and joking with the members. I love the stupid simplicity of trying to pull myself up a constructed wall, and the ridiculous satisfaction I get from reaching the top.
Find something you love. Please. Even if it’s just a past-time, like rock climbing is for me. Find something. I know it’s hard. I know it. But, please, do it anyway.
Today was also my birthday. And Thanksgiving. I didn’t have to go to work or class, and I got to eat a lot of food. Who would have thought I’d make it another year?
